They can usually schedule out-of-town patients within three weeks. Most patients are ready to go back to work within 5 days and exercise within 10 days. Dr. Rumbaut and his team have now performed the Lap-Band procedure on more than 1800 patients and have reported no deaths in their series. The mean excess weight loss after 18 months currently is approximately 67%. Complications with the Lap Band are slippage and erosion, both are less than 1%. Complications associated with the procedure are the same as any major surgery. Infection, bleeding, pneumonia, etc. all less than 2% and all patients were discharged before one week.

The Hospital where they work is San José, the most prestigious Private University Affiliated Facility in Northern Mexico. Open heart and heart transplant surgeries are performed every day. Our facility has been recognized as an Official Training Center for surgeons from the U.S. and Latin America in the laparoscopic application of the Lap Band.

Dr. Favretti and Dr. Segato have performed well over 2,500 Lap-Band cases and have published their results in major Medical Journals. Their team together with Dr. Cadiere and Dr. Himpens were the first in the world to perform this surgery, in October 1992.

Dr. Cadière and Dr. Himpens have done the procedure on quite a number of American patients, and many, but not all patients do manage to get reimbursement from their insurance.

They have performed some 3000 band procedures between 1992 and 2004. They report one patient mortality. This was not caused by a technical flaw but by over-eating, and esophageal perforation (in a Prader Willy patient). Death occured some 4 weeks after surgery. Our erosion rate is 1%. Pouch dilatation occurred in 6 % of the patients, and were treated by repositioning of the band or by band-removal in a minority of patients. 112 patients (3%) needed band-removal or conversion to another procedure like Gastric Bypass after an average of 3.6 years. They have published their results in major Medical Journals. Their team together with Dr. Favretti and Dr. Segato were the first in the world to perform this surgery, in October 1992.
